Kevin W. Johnson, age 54, of Chilton, died on October 22, 2025 at his home. He was born October 30, 1970, son of Kenneth and Kay Johnson. He was born and raised in Niagara, WI, where he was known as “Skipper” which was helpful because there were four Kevin Johnsons in school with him. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from UW-Green Bay, and his Master’s Degree in Education from Viterbo College. In 1995, he began his teaching career in Chilton where he remained until his passing.
Kevin was always community focused. As a young man growing up he climbed the ranks in Boy Scouts to become an Eagle Scout. Once in Chilton, he became a volunteer firefighter established the Fire Explorer Post while mentoring youth in the fire service, and in the year 2000, he was recognized with the Community Service Award by the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Wisconsin. He worked as an EMT for Calumet Medical Center Ambulance and deputy medical examiner for Calumet County, as well as alderman for the Chilton city council. His love for the kids of Chilton went beyond teaching and it was most apparent during the annual “Penny Drive” when he helped the student council raise money to buy Christmas Gifts for students. Privately, Kevin loved John Deere, collecting firetruck and police cruiser lights, the Mayberry Club, and spending time up north at “The Johnson Ranch” in Niagara. Nothing meant more to him than spending time with his godsons, Devon and Liam.
Kevin is survived by his parents, Kennth and Kay Johnson; his sister: Karla Johnson; his Godparents: Phil and Virginia Petersen; dear friends: Ann and Derek Hanamann, Nathan and Tabitha Schneider and their children, Devon and Liam; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kevin was preceded in death by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Light lunch and refreshments will be available throughout visitation. A memorial service will be held with the Riverside Methodist Church in Niagara at a later date.
