David Paul Klasell
ESCANABA — David Paul Klasell, 84, of Escanaba, Michigan, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was born on April 23, 1941, in Escanaba, Michigan and was the son of Elmer and Anna (Hornbald) Klasell. David graduated from Escanaba High School in 1959 and then attended Northern Michigan University for one year before being drafted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged after two years and returned to NMU to continue his education earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. David worked for the State of Michigan as a Business Tax Auditor for 30 years and retired in 1997.
David loved to hunt and traveled to the Dakota’s for over 40 years to hunt pheasants with his beloved dogs; Honey, Taffy, Abbey, and Ella. He married the former Elaine Beauchamp on June 17, 2006, at Bethany Lutheran Church. He and Elaine wintered in St. Augustine, FL and later in Cape Coral, FL for 23 years. He chose those areas because he loved to fish every day. In 1999 he won the World Walley Fishing Championship in Escanaba, Michigan. His passions were traveling, dogs, fishing and hunting.
David was involved with the community and served on the following boards: Delta County Planning Commission, Great Lakes Fishing Group, and U.P. State Credit Union. He was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Elaine; daughters LeAnn (Frank) Bink of Bark River and Sue (Mike) Johnson of Slinger, WI; 2 stepsons, Ron (Janice) Beauchamp of Escanaba and Scott Beauchamp of Escanaba; Grandchildren; Stephanie (Mike) Mihm, Sarah (Marcus) Matula, Amanda Bink (Caden Paquette) and Justin Bink (fiancé, Danae Anderson), Jessica (Carlton) Isaacson, Julia (Brendan) Morelle and Devin Hiar; 5 great grandchildren, Emma Mihm, Sander Isaacson, Louis Isaacson, Finnley Isaccson, Madelyn Morelle; several nieces and nephews and Brother-in-law Axel Anderson of Menominee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant sister Sandra; brother Thomas Klasell, sister-in-law Judy Klasell, sister, Barbara Anderson and mother of his children Carol Klasell.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of David Klasell will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Elizabeth Daniels officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the end of the service. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the fellowship hall at Bethany Lutheran Church.
