BARK RIVER — Darla Joan Erickson, 89, of Bark River, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 15, 2025 at Christian Park Village in Escanaba.
She was born in Gladstone on July 22, 1936, the daughter of Barney and Leone (Forvilly) Turan. Darla went to Nahma High School and graduated in 1954. She then attended Cloverland Commercial College.
She married Roy P. Bergstrom and they were blessed with three children. They owned and operated Bergstrom’s Service Station in Bark River before his passing on June 27, 1975.
Darla worked for Bark River Culvert and Equipment for one year in 1955 until the birth of her children. She returned to work in September of 1971 and worked for the Bark River Harris School until her retirement November 1996.
On June 18, 1976, Darla married Wayne Erickson at Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River and they shared 49 years of marriage.
Darla loved to support Bark River-Harris sports, especially basketball. She coached for girls junior high and junior varsity teams. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and MARSP.
Among survivors include her husband, Wayne of Bark River; children, Mark Bergstrom (Karen) Bergstrom, Laurie Lynn (Randy) Badge, and Kent Bergstrom (Nicole Bennett); grandchildren, Ashley (Ross) Labardee, Mikelle (Peter) Noreen, Whitney Badge, Angela (Ken) Beauchamp, Chuck (Christy) Mathias, Evan (Ashley) Bergstrom, and Mark Roy (Holly) Bergstrom; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Darla was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Roy P. Bergstrom.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21st from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm with Pastor Steven Hartman officiating. A meal will immediately follow in the church hall.
Burial will take place in Bark River Twp. Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church in Darla’s name.
