ESCANABA — Donald F. Mlostek, 78, formerly of Escanaba, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Menominee on Friday, September 12, 2025.
He was born on October 18, 1946 in Detroit, MI, son of Stanley and Margaret (Schneider) Mlostek. Don was raised in Detroit and graduated from high school in 1964.
Don served his community as an officer for the Detroit Police Department for 13 years before relocating to the U.P. in 1980. Along with his parents, they were partners in the Log Jam Bar in Ford River and in 1994 he became owner of Niagara Logistics until his retirement in 2018.
On July 15, 2017, Don married Sandra (Wotruba) Szapa in Escanaba. During their retirement years, they enjoyed their home in Cape Coral, Fl and enjoyed the summer months in Menominee.
Don was an avid supporter of community and was a member of the Eagles Club and a life member of the Elks Lodge 354. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, David Mlostek of Bark River; daughters, Tina Frost of Bark River and Michele Mlostek of Escanaba; step children, Michelle (Marc) Kleiman of Menominee, Daniel Szapa of Howell, MI, and Jon (Shelley) Giese of Bark River; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Robert Jennings.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 18th from 2 – 5 p.m. (EST) at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The Escanaba Elks Lodge 354 will have a memorial service at 5 p.m.
Burial will take place in Nadeau Twp. Cemetery on Friday, September 19th at noon (EST).
