Barbara Joyce Deacon
ESCANABA — Barbara Joyce Deacon of Escanaba, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 6, 2025. She was born November 14, 1934 in Berkley, MI and was the daughter of William Harold and Josephine Marie (LeClaire) Hess.
Barbara dedicated many years of service as a nurse’s aide, working at Christian Park Health Care Center for ten years and Bishop Noa for eight years. She loved her co workers and patients and Barbara was a delight to work for. She had a great sense of humor and was very witty.
Barbara married the love of her life Dennis Deacon on March 23, 1974 in Escanaba. Barbara and Dennis were faithful members of Calvary Baptist Church in Escanaba.
When time allowed, Barbara found great joy in gardening, woodworking, crocheting and knitting.
Barbara is survived by her husband of more than fifty years, Dennis R. Deacon; daughter Kathy Saari; son Brad Burket; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her dearest canine companions Minni Mai (aka deputy dog) and Rosey, and other beloved members of the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters; and sons, Rick and Guy Burket.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, Friday September 12, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Escanaba with Pastor Brian Swillum officiating. A meal will be served following the service in the fellowship hall at church.
