Edward M. Land

POWERS — Edward M. Land, 98, of Powers passed away at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Community Living Center in Iron Mountain, Wednesday, August 13, 2025 where he had been a resident for 2 months. Ed was born in Chicago on August 21, 1926 to the late Edward and Helene (Steffensen) Land.

He proudly served his country in the Pacific Theater in WWII with the Army 511th Airborne. Ed met the love of his life, Lorraine Ehrhardt, in 1947 while working at U.S. Steel in Chicago. They married on October 1, 1949 and had two sons, Cal and Jeff. After working various manufacturing jobs in Chicago and Milwaukee, and chasing Steelhead and Brook Trout all over NE Wisconsin and the UP, Ed moved his family to Powers in 1966 where he purchased U.P. Machine & Engineering Co. Ed transformed the company into a successful business that is now being carried on by his third generation grandsons, Scott and Jesse. After retiring from U. P. Machine in 1993, Ed started JRS Limousines and enjoyed taking his clients to Packer games and other events. He also served as President on both the Village of Powers board and the Menominee County Federal Credit Union.

Ed enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, golf, cooking, and in his later years, his winter home in Homosassa, FL. Ed was a generous soul that enjoyed sharing his good fortune with others, including Cream puffs from the Wisconsin State Fair, boxes of chocolates from Eagle River, bread from his favorite Milwaukee bakeries, all picked up and personally delivered to friends, neighbors and businesses around town. Sometimes, Ed would make deliveries on his golf cart. He had an uncanny memory and could recall people, places and dates like no other.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, his loving wife and daughter-in-law, Cathy Land.

He is survived by two sons: Calvin (Joyce) Land and Jeff (Paula) Land, five grandchildren: Amy (Vincent) Land Graham, Jesse (Erica) Land, Stacy (Jason) Heim, Jamie (Adam) Smith, and Scott (Megan) Land, ten great-grandchildren and a niece: Linda Dobbins of Superior, WI.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 (CST) on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the Spalding Township Cemetery with Tony Revord American Legion Post # 244 rites. A Celebration of Life will follow burial from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. (CST) at the R Place in Spalding.
