ESCANABA — Edward J. “Jim” Greis, 88, of Escanaba, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Jim was born on January 13, 1937, in Escanaba, son of John Peter and Lillian Esther (Rasmussen) Greis. He attended Holy Name High School and was in the first graduating class after its opening in 1955.

On October 4, 1958, Jim married the former Sharon Ann Miron at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. They raised four children and were able to celebrate 60 years of marriage before Sharon’s passing in 2019.

He worked as a foreman at Mead Paper Corporation and retired in December of 1993 after 33 years of service.

Among survivors include his children, Mary (Jim) Bergner of Two Rivers, WI, Carol (Dale) Svihl of Hastings, MI, Lynn (Ray) Farmer of Suamico, WI, and James (Nikki) Greis of Dorr, MI; grandchildren, Alex (Rachel) Bergner, Max Bergner, Matt Farmer and special friend, Lindsay Yourist, Anna Gornowich and daughter Laila, Jenna Greis, and Trent Greis; brother, Tom (Martha) Greis and sister-in-law, Annette Greis.

Along with his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Greis; siblings, Marie Verbeten, Margaret Milokna, John Greis, Mike Greis and grandson-in-law, Bergen Gornowich.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 16 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.

Entombment will take place at the Gardens of Rest Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to either OSF St. Francis Hospital Hospice or Delta County Cancer Alliance. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Bishop Noa Home for the care and support they have given Jim for the past three years and a special thank you to Dr. Carroll and the OSF St. Francis Hospital care team for the comfort they provided Jim and his family.
