Cecilia Louise Terrien

CORNELL — Cecilia Louise Terrien, 96, of Cornell, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Mill Creek in Marquette, Mich.
Cecilia was born on December 24, 1928 in Escanaba, daughter of Rene and Felice (DeBacker) Verbrigghe. She was raised in St. Nicholas and lived in Cornell for most of her life.
On August 13, 1949 the former Cecilia Verbrigghe married George William Terrien at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Perkins. They had four children and two foster children and spent over 65 years together before George’s passing in May 2015.
She farmed with her husband George in Cornell, milking cows and growing potatoes before converting to raising beef cattle in 1967. She retired in January of 1986.
Cecilia enjoyed making crafts and gardening, especially flowers. She bowled in league for over 40 years and was a dedicated member of Holy Family Church in Flat Rock.
She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their activities over the years.
Among survivors include her children, Linda (Dale) Plouff of Gladstone, Carol (Barry) Porter of Gladstone, Janet (Bill) Shelley of Homestead, Fla., Barbara (Matt) Guindon of Cornell; foster daughter, Mary Gaus of Escanaba; grandchildren, Allan Porter, Michelle (Dave) Bratonia, Sarah (Chris) VanEvara, Mike (Amy) Plouff, Laura (Charles) Nelson, Paul (Rachel) Guindon, Luke (Meagan) Guindon, Shannon (Brandon) Gauer, Joseph Guindon, AnnMarie Folcik, and Christopher, Olivia, David, and Makayla Shelley; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Madeline Judson and Jerome (Judy) Verbrigghe; and sister-in-law, Everall Verbrigghe.
Along with her parents, Cecilia is preceded in death by her husband, George Terrien; foster son, Chuck Godin; infant siblings, Jerome and Mary Verbrigghe; in addition to siblings, Emil Verbrigghe, Martha Falkies, John Verbrigghe, Mary Hoffmann, and Bertha Verbrigghe.
Visitation will take place on Monday, August 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S 13th St, Escanaba, MI 49829. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock with Rev. Sebastian Chacko officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.
