Richard Paul (Dick) Elegreet

RAPID RIVER — Richard Paul (Dick) Elegreet, 89 of Rapid River, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024 in Hoschton, Georgia. Dick was born March 23, 1935 in Rapid River, son of June (Young) and Charles Elegreet. He was raised in Gladstone and graduated from Gladstone High School, class of 1953. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and served his country in Germany and France until his honorable discharge in 1958. Shortly after returning home, Dick was employed by the U.S. Forest Service, retiring after 32 years and went on to sell real estate for Coldwell Banker. He married Mary Sue Sabourin on February 27, 1960 and together they raised three children. The couple shared 64 years of marriage.
Dick was a member of the Gladstone Legion, Post 71, for many years. In addition, he was a Charter member of the Rapid River Lions Club where he held various offices and participated in many Lions Club projects including the building of the new clubhouse. Dick was also an avid golfer and a member of the Gladstone Golf Club where he spent many hours swinging his clubs. Although he loved his golf, he always managed to save time for his green and gold, the Green Bay Packers.
Dick and Mary Sue spent many years wintering in Leesburg, Florida where they met many new friends. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, bocce ball and golf. He also enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, and entertaining his grandkids around the campfire.
Dick is survived by his wife, Mary Sue, son, John, daughters, Nancy Elegreet-Yu, and Suzanne Mitchell, grandchildren, Nicole (Mitchell) Patrick, Katlyn (Mitchell) Haack, John (JJ) Mitchell, Paul J Yu, McKenzie Yu, Ben Yu, Sophia (Elegreet) Young, and Samual Elegreet, great grandchildren, Harvey Patrick, Kellan and Clara Haack, and Millie Anne and Maddox Young.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his only sister, Dorothy (Elegreet) Gereau, brother-in-law Ronald Gereau, and great granddaughter, Faye Nicole Haack.
The family will receive friends and relatives at a Celebration of Life for Richard, on Monday, July 28 at the Rapid River Lions Club, Main Street, Rapid River, from 4 until 7.
