Jeanette M. Hanson

KATY, Texas — Jeanette M. Hanson passed away on May 12, 2025, at Herman Memorial Hospital in Katy, Texas. She was born on October 23, 1941, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, to Edward and Genevieve (Bennett) Flouro.

Jeanette graduated from Horicon High School in 1959. In August 1960, she married Melvin “Snooky” Hanson and moved to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, which she lovingly called home for the next 65 years. For the past 39 years, she and Snooky spent winters away — 33 years in Florida and the last six years in Texas.

She is survived by her daughters: Gina (Rick) Riedy of Escanaba, Deanna (Chuck) Howell of Richmond, Texas, and Katrina (Hank) Cota of Bark River; eight granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ken (Barb) Flouro; brother-in-law Gerald (Tammy) Hanson, sister in law Jayne Flouro, brother in law Paul Ponath.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin (“Snooky”); her sons Michael and Johnny; her parents; sister Christine, brothers Robert, Richard, Phil, Dennis, and Jack Flouro; brothers-in-law Richard and Robert Hanson.

Jeanette was known for her warm heart, delicious cooking, skillful canning, and her love of singing. She was deeply devoted to her family and especially proud of being a loyal and loving wife–“standing by her man”.

In 1971, Jeanette was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection on a paradise earth, and the hope of seeing her infant son again, was a source of strength throughout her life. In the years since Snooky’s passing, her hope of seeing him again in perfect health gave her daily comfort.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Escanaba.

Visitation: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial talk at 2:00 PM. Video conference will be available upon request.
