Daniel Anthony DeRouin

CAPRE CORAL, Fla.– Daniel Anthony DeRouin (Dan), 77, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Wells, passed away on September 7, 2024.

Dan was born February 20, 1947 in Escanaba, to Emil and Yetive (Nontelle) DeRouin. He attended and graduated from Holy Name High School in 1965.

In Dan’s early years he enjoyed working on his stock car and racing at the local track. He joined the Marine Corps in 1965 serving a tour in Vietnam and time in the states for 4 years. After being home for 6 months he decided to go back into the military but this time into the Army where he was sent for a 2nd tour to Vietnam. Dan returned stateside to serve as a recruiter, he put in another four years. Once returning home, he joined the National Guard for two years.

Dan lived in a variety of places throughout his life and had a story to go with each one. He would make sure to come home to Wells from time to time to see his mother and lifelong friends, Jim Kivioja and Tony Caron.

In his later years, Dan loved traveling with his RV. Again, he went all over the U.S. from Arizona to Maine and back home to Cape Coral, Fla. He continued to work on restoring classic cars both professionally and for fun. He and his buddies kept up with car cruises and racing until the end.

Dan is survived by: children, Danette (Jeffery) Rexford, Cape Coral, Dale (Laura) Shuls, Rodney (Elizabeth) Schuls and Frank (Crista) Cornette, grandchildren: Libby, Dale Jr., Reese, Ty, Lynsy and Travis and three great-grandchildren, sisters: Emily (Fred) Kukura, Jill (Richard) LaChance, Jewell Jackson, Lana DeRouin-Cutler, nieces and nephews: Daniel, Tammy, Jim and Paige.

In addition to his Parents, Dan is preceded in death by brother-in-law, Fred Kukura.

A memorial mass is scheduled for Thursday, July 10 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Escanaba, at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Dan will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba, with military honors. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the DeRouin family.
