Richard Joseph Caron

ESCANABA — Richard Joseph Caron, 89, of Escanaba passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 at his home in Escanaba surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 15, 1935 in Escanaba at the family home and was the son of Arthur and Vina (Dhooge) Caron. Richard graduated from Escanaba High School in 1954. While attending high school Richard worked at Office Service Company in Escanaba in the printing shop and continued working there for another 4 years. He then worked at Mead Paper Company for 34 years until his retirement. Richard married the former Bernice Lippens on July 28, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins and together the couple shared 68 years of marriage and raised four children Art, Denise, Dan, and Carolyn. Richard loved working in his shop, working on the sawmill with his son Dan, and working in the garden with his wife. Richard was content just being at home, helping his kids with every project and was there for every family event. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.

When ever you would visit Dick’s home, he would always walk you to the door and would say, “watch for the deer, they don’t sleep around here!”

Richard is survived by wife Bernice; children, Arthur (Sue) Caron of Escanaba, Denise LaVigne of Escanaba, Daniel (Lynda) Caron of Cornell, and Carolyn (Randy) Reynolds Escanaba; grandchildren, Ashley LaVigne, Daniel (Christina) Caron, Richard (Tina) Caron, Joseph (Taylor) Caron, Amee (Eric) Gilbert, James (Lindsey) Reynolds and Christa (Randy) Stutzriem; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur, Phil, Wayne and Harold; sisters, Dorothy, Jenette and Carol and son-in-law, Rick LaVigne.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba with Father Fran DeGroot and Father Al Mottt officiating. A luncheon will be served following the services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
