Harold James Hebert

NAHMA — Harold James Hebert, 88 passed away early Monday morning, June 23, 2025.

Harold was born September 19, 1936 in Nahma, Michigan, the second child of Reginald and Marion (Olson) Hebert. He graduated from Nahma High School in May 1954. He enrolled at Michigan State in September 1954 and joined the Navy Reserves in November that year. In September 1956, Harold was honorably discharged from the Navy and joined the Air Force ROTC. He graduated in June 1958 with a bachelor of science in police administration.

After returning home from college, Harold married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Sheedlo. They enjoyed over 60 years together, living and traveling around the world as Harold proudly served his country for more than 26 years. In 1974, the family moved to Colorado, settling in Aurora, Colorado, where he, Mary Ann and their four sons lived until Mary Ann’s passing in 2019.

After retiring from the Air Force, Harold worked as an electrical engineer until officially retiring in 1998.

Harold and Mary Ann bought a family home in St. Jacques in 2005 and spent every summer and fall there. They both enjoyed being able to spend time with their siblings, nieces and nephews and other relatives. In 2021, Harold decided he wanted to move back to St. Jacques full time. There was only one concern…who would take care of him if he became ill? So, with some blessings from above, his son, Paul, and daughter-in-law, Sharon, were able to move to the UP with him.

Harold loved the peace and quiet of the U.P., the fall colors, the laid-back lifestyle and being with his siblings again. He enjoyed working in his yard, picking berries, hunting, fishing, coin collecting and making maple syrup (or stoking the stove to stay warm). He was an amateur radio operator since 1969.

Harold is survived by his children, Mike (Margaret), Paul (Sharon), Tom (Sarah), Matt (Mary), 10 grandchildren, Justin, Kaitlin, Chris (Aubrie), Nick (Cecilia), Tim (Margaret), Kyle (Loren), Elise (Scott), Alex (Chelsea), Brent (Katie) and William and five great-grandchildren, Tori, Payton, Mason, Stephen and Russell, his sister Carol Lalonde, his precious dog Tela and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Hebert, sisters Kathleen Frankovich, Ann Mauhar, brothers Howard Hebert, Bobby Hebert, brothers in laws John Frankovich, Tony Mauhar, Jim LaLonde, sister in law Kathy Hebert, and his parents.

Family will receive friends on Monday, June 30 from 1 until 3 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military honors will be presented at 3 p.m. by the Rapid River American Legion Post 301. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Nahma, Michigan. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Ft. Logan Military Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, where he will be laid to eternal rest with his wife.

Paul and Sharon would like to thank all friends and family that came to visit Harold and to OSF Home Hospice for all the love and compassion they showed Harold while in their care.
