Jill Marie Young

GLADSTONE — Jill Marie Young, 57, of Gladstone, entered eternal life on Saturday, May 3, 2025 after a very brief cancer diagnosis.

She was born on October 8, 1967 in Rapid City, South Dakota, daughter of Harold and Sally (Therrien) Young.

Jill graduated from Escanaba Area High School in 1985 and Bay de Noc Community College in 1987. She worked at the U.P. State Fairgrounds alongside her Aunt Sandy before beginning her over 30-year career at Motion Industries.

Her commitment to helping others, especially children, will never be forgotten. She was actively involved with the U.P. Foster Closet of Delta County and the Great Start Program.

She enjoyed traveling, was an avid Detroit Lions fan although she had a “thing” for the KC Chief’s Patrick Mahomes (her Homie). Jill had a love for sloths and her precious Shih Tzu, Scrunchie.

A person with unmistakable humor that was lovingly referred to as “Auntie Chewtoy”, “Jill the Pill”, or “Jilly Bean” was always smiling. She was understanding, patient, kind, giving, had a zest for life, and lived her life with her favorite quote in mind, “Live well, Laugh often, Love much”. She loved all thing Disney especially her “main man” Mickey Mouse. She always looked forward to shopping trips with the girls.

She will be sadly missed by her parents, Harold and Sally; children, Ashley Hurkman, Cody Hurkman, and Carl Hurkman; fiance Kevin Belongie and his children, Nathan, Natalie, and Alyssa; brothers, Dale (Melanie) Young and Parick (Sammi) Young; special cousin (sister) and best friend forever, Janelle Wigand; goddaughters, Kassidy and Karly Wigand; father of her children, Tim Hurkman; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jill was preceded in death by her grandparents and other loving extended family members.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Gladstone (Flat Rock). Burial will immediately follow in Escanaba Twp.
