Adele Linnea Kivi
ESCANABA — Adele Linnea Kivi of Escanaba, Michigan, age 104, passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, under the care of OSF Hospice, at the Christian Park Healthcare Center, Escanaba, Mich.
Adele was born on Wednesday, February 2, 1921, to Waino and Lizzie (Johnson) Minkin in Bessemer Township, Mich. She and her siblings were raised on the family farm and helped their parents operate a small service station.
As a teenager, Adele worked in many resort hotels in Northern Wisconsin. She was so proud that one summer, she made enough money to purchase her mother a new stove.
On June 12, 1942, Adele married the love of her life Hugo E. Kivi at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ironwood. In 1957, Hugo had taken a job with Michigan Farm Bureau, prompting their family’s move to Escanaba. Aside from raising her two children, also worked in the lunchroom of Escanaba Junior High and then at the high school until her retirement.
Adele was a woman of great faith and was a longtime, devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Escanaba. She especially loved taking part in the church quilting group. Adele was also a life member of the Escanaba Eagles Club.
She enjoyed taking adventures to the casino to do some “people-watching.” Adele loved people. She could talk with anyone, and it could be said she never met a stranger. She was a warm and caring soul with a wonderful sense of humor–right to the end!
Adele is survived by her children Ron (Carol) Kivi of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Bonnie King of Escanaba; grandchildren Glenn, Craig, Dawn, Kristin, and Dave; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mae Hendrickson of Gile, Wis., and Melba Hendrickson of Cottage Grove, Ore.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved members of the family.
