DETROIT — With family at her side, Mary Helen Valencic passed away on October 30 at the age of 71 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Beloved mother to Erin (Michael) Sudrovech and Jill (Brandon) Gregory, grandma to Brody and Avenne, and sister to Lori (Bill) Valencic and Larry (Susan) Valencic, she was also a wonderful and caring aunt, cousin, niece and friend to many.
Born February 21, 1953 to Andrew and Angela Valencic in Kipling, Michigan, Mary grew up in the U.P. surrounded by friends and family. She attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette where she received her teaching degree.
Mary taught special education for nearly 30 years in Grand Ledge, Michigan. She enjoyed kayaking, hiking, walking, biking and cross country skiing. She also loved to send notes and cards to friends and family on special occasions or just because. Mary was an amazing woman. She loved Scrabble, chocolate, ice cream, and a good garage sale! She loved to laugh and spend time with her family, especially her two daughters and two grandchildren.
We will miss you so much, Mom, and we love you always.
