Joel Michael Sinclair

CARY, Ill. — Joel Michael Sinclair, 72, of Cary, Illinois passed away on September 30, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Joel is survived by children, Meghan (Jim) Greene, Jacob (Katie) Sinclair, Kimberly (Pale) Mejia; siblings, Janet (Herb) Lundin, Arlene Bloomquist, Dan Sinclair, William Sinclair, and Mary Ann Vito; and multiple grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Alvina Sinclair; brothers, Neil, Albert, and Patrick Sinclair; sister, Margo Viviano; brothers-in-law Melvin Bloomquist and Mike Vito; and sister-in-law, Eunice Sinclair.

Joel was born on December 25, 1951, in Escanaba, Michigan. He graduated from Holy Name High School in 1970. Joel started his railroad career when he hired out with the Soo Line Railroad in 1978 and finished his career with the Canadian Pacific Railroad in Bensenville, Illinois after 33 years of service in 2011.

Early in his career, Joel enjoyed spending his off-time golfing with his buddies, Wags and Timmy, around the Chicagoland area or hunting in the Upper Peninsula at Little Cabin Still with Mike and Steve Stropich, chasing those gray and misty mornings. In the latter part of his career, Joel spent his time vacationing with his brothers in Phoenix or his children and family in the Dominican Republic.

Since his retirement from the railroad, Joel looked forward to his annual trip home to Gladstone where he stayed at Lindberg’s Cove Resort in Kipling. He loved spending the mornings watching the sun come up over Little Bay de Noc. Evenings were spent around the table playing cards and telling stories and reminiscing about growing up causing mischief in the Buckeye. Joel cherished spending this time at home being able to watch his grandkids fish and play yard games.

Please join Joel’s family at the Gladstone Yacht Club from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 for a celebration of his life.
