Richard C. ‘Dick’ Barron

ESCANABA — Richard C. “Dick” Barron, 92, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

He was born in Escanaba on October 27, 1931, the son of Raymond and Eugenia (Martell) Barron. Dick was raised in Flat Rock and graduated from Escanaba High School, Class of 1949. After high school he served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954. He worked in Naval Air Transport and was stationed in San Diego and Hawaii during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he attended Marquette University where he graduated in 1959 with his bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Dick had multiple careers throughout his life. He worked as an accountant for Price Waterhouse, plant manager for Holly Petroleum Pipeline and Terminal, vice president for American Timber Homes, and was a real estate broker for many years. He held an active broker’s license until his passing, selling his last property when he was 84 years old. He loved to work with people, and it showed.

He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 354, American Legion, Realtor’s Association, Knights of Columbus, JCI Senator #7748, and a former Escanaba Jaycee. He was also a board member at LakeState Industries for 30 years.

He enjoyed the outdoors. Gardening alongside Mary Ann was a life-long hobby. Their garden was known by many, and people loved to stroll by and admire the beauty. He was also an avid hunter. His favorite part was actually the camaraderie with the old timers at camp sharing the same generation. But he also loved seeing the young guys coming in and getting excited about the hunt. He liked working with his hands and became a talented stained-glass artist later in life. He also enjoyed woodworking. Dick loved a challenge to repair anything. He always had several projects going, and once completed were often gifts to his children.

Dick had many loves in his life. First was his love of God, followed by his wife and family. He also loved a good joke, a good adventure, and a good Manhattan. This is closely followed by his love for a good pizza, a cold PBR, and a little mischief. Anyone who knows him would agree that he loved life and truly lived every single day!

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Ann; children, Steve (Sara) Barron, Sally (Tom) Bauer, Roy (Rene) Barron, Jennie (John) Stone, and Ann (Kevin) Wendt; grandchildren, Mitch and Olivia Barron, Willow, Heather, Aurora, Roy, and Tommy Bauer, and Ryan and Paige Wendt; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marie (Axel) Oseen, Genevieve (Ted) McFadden, Geraldine (John) Germain; and brothers, Loren (Gladys) Barron and Raymond (Blanche) Barron Jr.
