Francis R. ‘Bucky’ Grenier

ESCANABA — Francis R. “Bucky” Grenier, 82, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Bucky was born in Escanaba on July 7, 1942, son of Raymond and Josephine Marie (Gardner) Grenier. He graduated from Escanaba High School.

After high school, Francis joined the U.S. Army. His service began in April of 1962 and he was honorably discharged in 1964.

When he returned to Escanaba, Bucky worked for Birdseye Veneer Plant and then transitioned his career to the Chicago North Western Railroad where he worked in maintenance for the ore docks in Escanaba.

Bucky was a natural outdoorsman. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and had a special love for eagles. He especially enjoyed camping and playing cards with Heather (Dubord) Jarvis and her family. Bucky was also an avid Packer fan.

He is survived by his children, Aimee (Jeff) Vertz of Escanaba, Bonnie (James) Gereau of Escanaba, Sherry Grenier of Escanaba and Francis Grenier, Jr. of Escanaba; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Carly) Vertz, Brittany Vertz, Josh Grenier, Alexandria Vertz, Dylan Grenier, Jared Grenier, Drake Grenier; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley (Jim) Tobatto, Patricia (Ken) Gartland, Beverly (Bill) Nault, Jimmy Grenier and Janet (Dale) Bintner; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Katie.

Along with his parents, Francis is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Katrina Gereau; and special friend, Helen “Honey” Polishak.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S 13 St., Escanaba, MI 49829. Refreshments will be available in the lounge during the visitation hours. Military honors will take place at 5 p.m. and the funeral service will immediately follow.
