David John ‘Ike’ Eichenhofer, Sr.

RAPID RIVER — David John “Ike” Eichenhofer, Sr., 87, of Rapid River passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024, at his home in Rapid River. He was born July 10, 1937 in Wyandotte, Mich. and was the son of Herman and Hazel (Labo) Eichenhofer. Ike graduated from Tilghman High School in Paducah, Ky. and then graduated from Western Michigan University with a mechanical engineering degree. He served in the U.S. Navy. Ike was employed with General Motors in Saginaw, Mich. for over 30 years and retired as vice president of marketing. Ike married the former Corinne Wunder on August 9, 1995 in Saginaw, Mich. They enjoyed wintering in Florida and moved to Rapid River in 2021. Ike was a member of the St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rapid River, Gladstone American Legion Post #71, the Eagles Club and Moose Lodge both in Sebring, Fla. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and going to Deer Camp every year.

David Eichenhofer is survived by wife, Corinne; children, David (Rose) Eichenhofer, Jr. of Port Washington, Wis., Dawn (Vern) Buchbinder of Grass Lake, Mich., Daniel (Shelly) Eichenhofer of Malborne, Fla. and Darrin (Terry) Eichenhofer of Port Washington, Wis.; step-children, Richard (Sherri) Cayer of Vassar, Mich., James (Shelly) Cayer of Belleview, Mich. and Jeff Cayer of Alma, Mich.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Jim) Holden of Trenton, Mich., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Danny Eichenhofer.

Private military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Gladstone American Legion Post #71 will be held in November.
