BARK RIVER — Stig Olaf Bergh, age 88, of Bark River, Mich. passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Emmons Adult Care Home. He was born February 19, 1936 in Karlstad, Sweden and was the son of Erik and Bertha (Jakobsson) Bergh. Stig moved to the United States in 1953 and worked for Western Printing and then he sailed with the United States Merchant Marines, sailing in South America. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy on the USS Dyess (DD-880) from August 2, 1956, until he was honorably discharged on January 7, 1959. Stig began his working career with Harnischfeger Corporation in Escanaba before working at the Soo Line Railroad as a brakeman and later retiring as a conductor with the Soo Line at age 65. Stig married the former Georgeann Mae Mustonen on February 27, 1960 and she preceded him in death on August 1, 2010. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River, Gladstone Swedish Club, Vasa Lodge #463 and the Amvets Post #123.

Stig is survived by daughters, Peggy Bergh of Bark River, Mona Bergh of Bark River, and Lorna Prater of Manistique; grandchildren, Garret Prater and Alissa (Ben) Hurley; great-grandchild, Kendall; and several nieces and nephews

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Stig Bergh will be held at noon Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the Ludington Room located in the Anderson Funeral Home. Burial and Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Escanaba Salvation Army or a charity of their choice.
