In 1949 he graduated from Rock High School. He served in the United States Army from May of 1951 until his Honorable Discharge in May 1953 reaching the rank of corporal. He married the love of his life, the former Dorothy (Sis) Berry on April 25, 1953 in Marquette, Mich. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2016. The couple raised six children: Edward (Tammi) Wadeen, Kansas; Robert Wadeen, Escanaba; Sherry (Rick) Madsen, Green Bay, Wis.; Steve (Bea Lusardi) Wadeen, Lower Michigan; Kevin (January) Wadeen, Missouri.
Their son Rick (Mary) Wadeen preceded him in death on December 17, 2022 along with his grandson, Alan Wadeen, and his only sibling, Millie Kanerva. Aside from his wife and children, Vern was very proud of and loved his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, nephews, and friends.
Vern lived his life the best he knew and enjoyed every moment of it. His favorite thing to do was to go to the casino, watch NFL football (GB Packers), visit with family and friends, drink coffee and eat Finnish biscuit. He talked a lot about his life growing up in Rock and was amazed at all the changes he witnessed in the world during his living years. Vern made an impact on many lives and will be forever missed. Until we meet again.
Burial for Vern and Sis will take place at the Rock Cemetery on Friday, August 30, at 1 p.m. with the Rock American Legion Post #559 performing Military Honors.
