Paul B. Hammond

Paul was born on June 11, 1939, in Escanaba, the son of Richard and Ruth (Snyder) Hammond. He was raised in Gladstone and was a graduate of Gladstone High School. He went on to receive his teaching degree from Northern Michigan University. Paul was employed with the Escanaba Area Public Schools for 33 years. On June 15, 1968, Paul was united to the former Judy Martin and together they shared 56 wonderful years.

Paul was also a talented cook and cooked at the Terrace restaurant for 20 years. He was also a natural entertainer. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing. He also liked to invest in stocks, and putz around the casino and Menards. He loved getting together with his old coworkers and classmates for lunch each week as well. He cherished the time spent with those he loved, and he will be truly missed.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Judy; sons, Brian (Dawn) Hammond of Gladstone and MIchael (Shanna) Hammond of Gladstone; grandchildren, Penelope (PS), Keaton, and Roseanne, all of Gladstone; brother Michael (Geri) Hammond of Ypsilanti; sister Diane (George) Shimabukuro of California; and brother-in-law David Martin of Daggett.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Sarah Lynn Hammond; and nephew Phillip Martin.

Memorial contributions in Paul’s name may be directed to First Lutheran Church or to UP Health Systems Hospice.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17, at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone from 2 to 4 p.m. Military honors will be presented at 4 p.m. with a service to follow officiated by Pastor Elisabeth Daniels.
