ESCANABA — Elvera Rhoda Segorski, life-long resident of the Escanaba area died June 26, 2024, just 51 days before her 107th birthday.

She was born in Ford River Township, August 16, 1917, to Rhoda Jane (Irving) and Oscar D. Anderson. She married Joseph Clemance Segorski, of Alpena, Mich., December 31, 1936.

As a young woman, Elvera worked as a waitress, in a garment factory, at the Michigan Theater, and as a chocolate dipper at Sayklly’s Candies where she worked for many years.

Elvera enjoyed reading, gardening, and baking. She loved playing cards and bingo, and she loved to win. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She shared many of her creations with family and friends as Christmas gifts. Elvera spent many hours of her life nurturing her children and grandchildren. She was often the first to offer a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Sandra Valerio of Anchors Point, Alaska, June (Kenneth) Kingsley of Alpena, Mich., Michael Segorski of Escanaba, and Raymond Segorski of Ford River; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-great-grandchildren. Elvera also had many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph who died May 28, 1980; her parents, Rhoda and Oscar Anderson; sisters, Alice Anderson, June Anderson, Eliza Dubord, Josephine Joncas, and Dorothy Mae Pease; and brother, Irving Anderson.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Elvera Rhoda Segorski will be held on what would have been her 107th birthday, Friday, August 16, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Escanaba, at 11 a.m. Pastor Jan Reed will officiate. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Following the luncheon, burial for Elvera Segorski will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery. A message of condolence may be directed to the family by visiting www.crawfordfuneralhomes.net. The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting with arrangements.
