LEMESA, Calif. -- Delores Elaine (Weycker) Milton was born in Escanaba on October 3, 1942, to William and Lillian Weycker. She was the youngest of three siblings: Richard, Patricia, and Dee.
As a young girl growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, she fell in love with horses and got her wish of owning one when she was 19. Her love of horses lived on in her heart for her entire life.
Dee graduated from Escanaba High School in the U.P. in 1961 and attended Northern Michigan University. After a brief stint there, she went to live with her sister Pat in Milwaukee to try her hand working in the real world. It didn't take long for Dee and Pat to realize that the inclement weather was less than ideal for two young up-and-comers with big dreams.
In the summer of 1964, the sisters talked their folks into driving them to San Diego, California to start a new life. The girls got an apartment, jobs, and a new car. They were breaking into the San Diego social scene when in October 1965, Pat set them up on a double date where Dee met Dave Milton. A month later Dave left for military service in Vietnam. When he returned after two years, they rekindled their relationship and were married on June 29, 1968.
Dee and Dave were married for 56 years and had three children: Paul, Joshua, and Michael. Being a mother was the joy of Dee's life. She also longed to be a grandmother and was blessed with seven grandchildren: Emilia, Kyle, James, Caleb, Claire, Peter, and Adam. She enjoyed and spoiled the grandchildren up to the end. She loved to travel, enjoyed puzzles, and had a passion for painting. She loved to paint horses and family members.
Dee battled an aggressive type of brain cancer for just over four months. She peacefully passed at her home on July 10, 2024 surrounded by family. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Milton of La Mesa, Calif.; brother, Richard (Eleanor) Weycker of Stonington, Mich.; sister, Patricia Weycker Hodge of Jacksonville, Fla.; her children, Paul (Martha) Milton of Brea, Calif., Josh (Deanna) Milton of El Cajon, Calif., Michael (Jessie) Milton of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
