POWERS-SPALDING — Anne Therese Petersen, 92, of Powers-Spalding, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024 at the Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson, in Iron Mountain, Mich.

She was born June 13, 1932 in Escanaba, daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Walch) Cass. Anne graduated from Escanaba High School.

She married Walter “Wallie” R. Petersen on June 18, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Parish in Escanaba. Wallie preceded her in death in 2011. Together Anne and Wallie raised their family in Powers-Spalding.

Anne worked as a homemaker for most of her life, raising seven children. She had many hobbies including sewing, knitting, and crocheting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She passed her knowledge of sewing on to her children and others, as the co-leader of the Happy Workers 4-H group. She was an avid reader and made many trips to the Menominee County Bookmobile.

Wally and Anne were members of the Good Sam Camping Club and traveled across the country to spend winters in Arizona, Texas and Florida. Anne loved cooking and baking for her family and it brought her so much happiness to have her family gathered around the table for holiday meals and Sunday dinners. Her cinnamon roll recipe has been shared with children and grandchildren, but Anne’s special touch made Her’s extra special.

Anne was a member of St John Neumann parish and St. Anne Alter Society. She was a member of the Red Hats, served as Village of Powers treasurer, and worked at Powers Printing for over 20 years.

She is survived by her seven children, Patti Heilala of Republic, Beth (Brian) Waitrovich of Kingsford, Susan (Mark) Lemke of New Franken, Wis., Ruth (Terry) Szapa of Oconto, Wis., Mark (Denice) Petersen of Menominee, Anne (Jeff) Heino of Sun Prairie, Wis., Nick (Lisa) Petersen of Gladstone; 18 grandchildren, Andy (Jorli), Adam (Lindsey), Alex (Amy) Heilala, Jonathan, Ben (Janna) Vish, Tom Waitrovich, Greg (Heather), Chris (Jill) Carr, Sara (Travis) Frisque, Katy (Eric), Jacob (Leah) and Aaron (Kelly) Szapa, Emily Petersen, Abbey (Kyle) Harvey, Jared (Jessica) and Samantha (Trevor) Heino, Mallory (Evan) Wilton and Payton (Taylor) Petersen; 15 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Heilala, Mackenzie Waller, Haylie Carr, Austin, Caleb, Ryleigh and Liam Carr, Zaki Szapa, Felix, Soren and Scarlet Szapa, Avery and Ellis Harvey, Levi and Carter Wilton; six step-great-grandchildren, Joel, Paige, Brenden, Ryan, Malaki, and Brayden.
