ESCANABA — Michael James Liberty, age 30, of Escanaba passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born March 14, 1994 in Escanaba, and was the son of Richard Liberty and Deanna Cavadeas. Michael graduated from Gladstone High School in 2012 and became a certified welder through the ISD program. He was employed at Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad and Northern Machine as a welder and most recently as an ironworker and welder with CR Meyer. Michael was a mechanically inclined person who enjoyed motorcycles, boating, camping, and going to his Bible study at New Life Church. He loved animals and children and enjoying spending time with his family especially his grandparents.
Michael is survived by his mother, Deanna (Jami Pond) Cavadeas of Gladstone; father, Richard (Candace) Liberty of Gladstone; brother, Bradley (Cassandra) Liberty of Gladstone; step-sister, Liza (Jerry) Plourde; step-brothers, Phillip (Tina) Peterson, Zachery (Nikki) Pond and Bryce Pond; grandmothers, Charleen Cavadeas of Gladstone and Mickey Liberty of Escanaba; and niece, Everleigh Liberty. Most recently Michael was baptized and found a strong relationship with his Lord and Savior.
He was preceded in death by grandfathers ,John Cavadeas and Richard Liberty; great-grandmother, Rose Ratkovich; and niece, Kallie Liberty.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the New Life Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Michael Liberty will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday with Pastor Jason Janich officiating. A luncheon will be served following the services in the New Life Church fellowship hall. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Mausoleum.
