Herman Robere

FAIRBANKS TOWNSHIP — Herman Robere, 92, of Fairbanks Township, Michigan passed away at home on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Herman was born on January 24, 1932, to his parents William and Angelina (Rochefort) Robere. He joined the U.S. Army on March 16, 1949, serving until October 2, 1952, including 28 months in the Philippines. Upon discharge from the Army, Herman worked in Flint, Michigan where he met and married Ellen Cook on August 20, 1955. In January 1957, he brought his bride to Fairbanks Township to begin his career as a farmer; he always said, “find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life,” and that’s what he did. He loved farming and in 2021 his farm was designated a Michigan Centennial Farm.”

Herman was a life member of American Legion Post 545 of Garden, where he served as Chaplin for nine years and as a member of the honor guard for many years. He would drop whatever he was doing to serve as an honor guard at any veteran’s funeral.

Herman was also a member of Hiawathaland Farm Bureau, where he held several offices including serving two years as district director.

In his leisure time, Herman loved to cruise and spend time playing cards with his wife and family.

Herman faithfully attended the Fayette Congregational Church.

Herman is survived by Ellen, his wife of 68 years; his brother, George; his sons, David (Darcy) Robere of Cooks, Mich., Bruce Robere of Armada, Mich., and daughter, Debbie (John) Ellsworth of Wixom, Mich.; grandchildren, Bruce II, Lacey (Thomas) Agawa, David Jr., William (Melissa), Andrew, Anissa and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Connor, Ryker, Skylar, Matthew, and Ethan.

Herman was preceded in death by his grandson, Lance Corporal Justin Ellsworth who was killed in Iraq while serving his country; his parents; brothers, Issac, Edmund, Russell, William, Herbert; sisters, Irene, Evon, Laura, Freda, Nancy, Emma, and Bertha.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fausett Family Funeral Homes in Garden, Michigan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, at 10 a.m. at Fayette Congregational Church with Pastor Jeff Fox officiating. A burial with military honors will follow at New Garden Cemetery in Garden, Michigan. A luncheon with family and friends will take place following the burial at Fairbanks Township Hall. Honorary pall bearers will include Dave Robere Jr., Andrew Robere, Bruce Robere II, William Robere, Spencer Agawa, Connor Agawa, and Ryker Agawa.

Memorial donations in Herman’s honor may be directed to the Garden American Legion Post 545 or the Fayette Congregational Church.
