SURPRISE, Ariz. — Gary Thomas, age 81, passed away June 7, 2024, in Surprise, Ariz. He was born July 27, 1942, in Detroit, Mich. His family moved to Escanaba six years later.

He was the son of Francis and Alma (Niemi) Thomas and is survived by wife, Virginia; son, Michaell; and daughters, Carrie (Christian) Beck, Chrissie (David) Dobrotka, and Cathy (Michael) Degenhardt; and grandchildren Molly, Zach, MacLean, Warren, Sam, Emma, Ellison, Henry and Mable.

Gary was a graduate of Milwaukee School of Engineering and was a home builder in the Milwaukee area and in Florida. Upon retirement he moved from Florida to Door County, Wisconsin, and from there to Buckeye, Arizona.

He was an avid golfer since his early teens, starting out as a caddy in Escanaba.

Per Gary’s request, no public gathering will be held.
