Shirley Mae Dahl

FLAT ROCK — Shirley Mae Dahl, 87, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Sunny View Adult Foster Care in Flat Rock.

She was born on May 22, 1936 in Hyde, daughter of Jerry and Margaret (LaCasse) Derusha of Escanaba and was a lifelong resident of the area. Shirley attended Soo Hill School and graduated from Escanaba Area High School in 1954.

On July 26, 1958, Shirley married Roy A. Dahl at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, celebrating family birthdays, holidays, and going to the casino.

She was employed for 45 years working in the meat departments for Red Owl, C & S Market, Glenn’s Market, and Super One Foods. She retired in March of 2000. Shirley was a member of St. Anne’s Church, Retired Teamster’s 328 Union Member, United Foods & Commercial Workers 73A, and the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Among survivors include her son, Terry (Karen) Dahl; grandchildren, Bradley and Nicole Dahl of Escanaba, Tiffany Dahl of DePere, Wis., and Tyler Dahl of Gladstone; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Cooper, Chase, and Zoe Dahl.

She cherished spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow throughout the years. Shirley always loved dancing with her loving husband.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; brother, Richard J. Derusha; and granddaughter, Tabitha S. Dahl.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at noon with Deacon Terry Saunders officiating.

Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
