Mark R. Wells

ESCANABA — Mark R. Wells of Escanaba, Michigan, formerly of St. Clair Shores, age 66, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Mark, son of the late Ronald C. and Joan M. (Oakes) Wells. He is survived by his brother John (Nancy) Wells; sister Lori (Rob) Pusateri; and nieces and nephews, Jessica (Tony) Vassau, Matt (Kate) Wells, Josh and Lia Pusateri.

Mark was a 1975 graduate from Lakeshore High School, St. Clair Shores and attended Bowling Green University pursuing education. Mark was a gifted athlete. In 1967, at the age of 10, he placed second in the country for the Pitch, Hit, Throw at NY Yankee Stadium. At age 12, Mark was recognized as the MVP for the Silver Stick Tournament in all divisions. He was also a team member of the 1980 Gold Medal Olympic Hockey Team.

Mark’s generosity to people in need was at the forefront of his existence. He spent his life’s purpose contributing to various charities and families in need with his Olympic memorabilia, benefiting the lives of others. His kindness and connection with children led him to run youth hockey camps and he offered his time and experience to various organizations as a motivational speaker to build character, strength, and resilience in young athletes. His impact on youth brought him great joy.

Mark’s life stories will be missed and may God rest his soul. The family will gather for a celebration of Mark’s life in the near future.
