Richard Iver Seelund

GLADSTONE — Richard Iver Seelund, age 92, of Gladstone passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Murrays Country View in Gladstone. He was born December 1, 1931 in Escanaba, Mich. and was the son of John and Ellen (Carlson) Seelund. He grew up in Foster City, graduated from Foster City High School and then was drafted into the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. During his service, Richard was a member of the Army Artillery Battalion who plotted out the maps for the artillery strikes. After the war Richard moved to Chicago and worked for the Xerox Corporation as a copy specialist. He married the former Emma Lee Sandoval on August 27, 1960 in Chicago, Ill. and she preceded him in death in 1978. After his retirement, Richard moved back to Felch and later to Gladstone. Richard loved electronics and enjoyed taking things apart, fixing them and putting them back together. He could fix anything! Richard was a member of the Felch-Breen VFW and the Gladstone American Legion Post #71. He was a proud veteran! Richard was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening and you would never catch him without one of his many military hats on.

Richard is survived by his companion, for the last 33 years, Katie Clairmont of Gladstone; daughter, Rebecca Lee (Eric Chicken) of Crawfordville, Fla.; son, Michael (Kimberly Ann) of Aurora, Colo.: six grandchildren, brother, Robert (Karen) Seelund of Felch, Mich.; stepchildren, Michael (Barbie) Clairmont of Gladstone and Phil (Sue) Clairmont of Petosky, Wis. and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by brother Roger Seelund and stepdaughter Debbie Clairmont.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 16, 2024, at 2 p.m. CST at the Felch Cemetery with Louis Hague officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Felch-Breen VFW. Burial will take place in the Felch Cemetery. A toast, in honor of Richard, will be held Solberg’s following the burial.
