Genevieve ‘Gen’ Jeannet Richard

STURGEON BAY, Wis. — Genevieve “Gen” Jeannet Richard, 96, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of the Town of Egg Harbor, was called Home to be with the Lord, early Thursday morning, April 18, 2024 at Bayview Senior Living in Sturgeon Bay.

She was born in Gladstone, Mich. the December 30, 1927 to Jesse James Cartwright and Delia Mary (LaPalm) Cartwright. Gen grew up attending All Saints Catholic Church and graduated from All Saints Catholic School in Gladstone.

She was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Arthur Richard on May 19, 1945 at All Saints Church.

They eventually moved to Door County, Wis., and resided in the Town of Egg Harbor. All seven of their children, whom she loved dearly, grew up at Horseshoe Bay Farms in Egg Harbor.

Gen worked with apples, pears, cherries, and plums in the apple shed on the farm and cleaned for several different private homes and motels in the Egg Harbor area.

She and Chuck loved square dancing with friends and danced all over the United States while traveling with their motor home. Gen also enjoyed playing cards, reading, and crochet.

While living in Homosassa, Fla., she and Chuck were involved with Homosassa State Wildlife Park, where Chuck ran the boats, and Gen was a greeter, meeting people from all over the world.

She had a great love for her Catholic faith all throughout her life. Gen was a longtime and active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Egg Harbor (now Stella Maris Parish-Egg Harbor site) and its Altar Society, The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, The Christ Child Society, and Prayer Shaul Ministry Home Care, in addition to serving as a sacristan at Stella Maris Parish. When she and Chuck moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wis., they joined St. Joseph Parish. Gen had quite a collection of religious statues and could fondly recall the trips and pilgrimages associated with obtaining each of them.

She and Chuck were blessed with over 72 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2017.
