Brian E. Sorby

ESCANABA — Brian E. Sorby of Escanaba, 75, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, Wis.

Brian was born to Ernest and Dorothy (Hamacher) Sorby on November 5, 1948, in Iron River, Michigan. In 1967, he graduated with the last class of Iron River High School. Following high school, Brian proudly served his flag and country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He primarily served in Germany and used his leave time to travel extensively.

Upon his honorable discharge from the military, Brian returned home in 1971 and enrolled in Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba. Around this time, Brian was bartending at Baron’s Bar where he met his future bride, Barbara Ann Pierson. They were married on June 15, 1974. Following his studies at Bay College, he continued his education at Ferris State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. This led to a forty-year career in retail and wholesale grocery, working for several organizations in management positions from store manager to account manager.

Brian retired in 2015, but still worked part-time every now and then. He was also a participant in the Delta RSVP Program, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 2998, in Escanaba. He was previously the Vice Commander of VFW Chassell Post 6507.

Brian is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons Kevin (Dawn) Sorby of Oak Park, Ill. and Jeff Sorby of Marquette, Mich.; granddaughter Alyssa Sorby; brother Steven Sorby of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Mark Sorby.
