Bret P. Moody

ESCANABA — Bret P. Moody, 53, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024 following a long illness.

He was born on January 15, 1971 in Kankakee, Ill., son to Donald G. and Rebecca L. (Regnier) Moody. In 1982 their family moved to Escanaba where he attended Holy Name School and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1989. Bret attended Western Michigan University majoring in music.

Bret worked as a brewer for Hereford and Hops in Bay City for four years before returning to Escanaba, where he worked and eventually managed the Escanaba Hereford and Hops for several years. The Hereford and Hops group was like a family to Bret. Everyone who knew Bret, loved him and his infectious laugh.

He had a passion for music, whether attending concerts, playing his guitar, or just listening to all kinds of music. Bret also had a cherished guitar collection. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed talking about football to anyone.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed being at camp. He loved hunting, fishing, and doing all outside things. He loved all animals.

Bret embraced his faith and was extremely knowledgeable about scripture, biblical history and archaeology.

He was a beloved “uncle” to Evan, Ethan, Jackson, and Brynn and always attended the kid’s activities to show his love and support.

Among survivors are his mother, Rebecca Moody of Rock; aunts and uncles, Rebecca Yowell, Pat and Mary Moody, and Ron and Tamara Ponton. He is also survived by his beloved cousins, Amanda King and her children, Evan and Ethan; Mark (Erin) Yowell and their children, Jackson and Brynn; Michael and Ashley Lynch and their son, Owen, Christina, Caysie and Courtney Moody and Michele and Scott Richard.

Bret was preceded in death by his father, Don Moody; infant brother, Michael Moody; grandparents, Cliff and Bernice Moody; uncles, Marc Moody and Lonnie Yowell, former fiance Jackie Snyder and cousin, Terry King.

Visitation will be on Sunday, April 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Monday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Perkins with Rev. William Ssozi officiating.
