Mary Ellen Plante
GLADSTONE — Mary Ellen Plante, age 90, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at her home.
Mary was born January 30, 1934 in Escanaba, the daughter of John and Irene (Williamson) Sepic. She was raised in Gladstone and graduated from the Gladstone High School in 1952. She was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church. Mary worked as a secretary in the athletic and guidance counseling departments for the Gladstone High School for many years, retiring in 1996. She was united in marriage to Vincent Plante on March 10, 2002 in Maui, Hawaii. She loved to travel. Together Mary and Vince took three trips to Hawaii and spent 20 winters in Florida where she loved to go for walks on the waterfronts and beaches collecting sea glass and shells. Mary also enjoyed reading, bowling, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary was famous for remembering and celebrating’s everyone’s birthday.
Mary is survived by her husband, Vince Plante of Gladstone; children, Mary Beth (the late Bill) Yeadon of Iron Mountain, Gary Stairs of Spirit Lake, ID and Judy (Richard) Reames of Allegan, Mich.: stepson, Deric Plante of Appleton, Wis.: stepdaughter, Nadine Plante of Appleton, Wis.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister, Karen (John) Waeghe of Green Bay, Wis., several nieces and nephews, and her dear friend Evelyn Anderson of Gladstone.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Stairs, her brother Jack Sepic, and parents John and Irene Sepic of Gladstone.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow visitation at noon with Pastor Elisabeth Daniels officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
