Mary Ellen Bowden
ESCANABA — Mary Ellen Bowden, 82, of Escanaba, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Christian Park Health Care Center with her loving family surrounding her and her daughter-in-law, Dawn, holding her hand.
She was born on March 20, 1941 in Detroit, the daughter of William and Gladyes (Christiansen) Carroll. Mary was raised in Stonington and graduated from Rapid River High School in 1959.
On September 24, 1960, she married Robert Bowden at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba.
Mary enjoyed gardening and horseback riding. She was a member of St. Anne’s Church.
She is survived by children, Theresa (Tom) Pietsch, Thomas (Dawn) Bowden, Terry (Christopher) DeGrave, and Ann (Mark) Rudd; six grandchildren, Brittany Pietsch, Jacob and Mike Bowden, Amanda Levesque, Jaden and Kyle Rudd; and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gladyes Carroll and husband, Robert Bowden.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.
Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Delta County Cancer Alliance, 3430 Ludington St., Escanaba.
