Joseph “Lowell” Charon, age 85, of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2024. Lowell was born in Escanaba, Mich. on November 9, 1938, a son of the late Joseph A. and Elizabeth (nee: Swille) Charon. He was educated in Escanaba schools. On March 1, 1969, in Hartford, S.D., he was united in marriage to Norene Wendt.
Lowell was employed as a machinist for many years, retiring from Bosch. He was a member of Somers Community United Church of Christ and the IAM Local # 437. He also was a member of the Model T Club of America, Vintage Auto Club, and Midwest Classic Street Machines. Lowell was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His other loves were Bees, Model T’s, CASE tractors, and trees. He worked on the restoration of his 1919 Ford Model T touring car over many years and completed his prized classic in 2023.
Lowell’s gardening and horticultural skills were the envy of many. 2 pound, 5 ounce tomatoes grew in his backyard plot. His apple trees were the source of many delicious traditions shared with family and friends. Lowell had a knack for building and craftsmanship. He and Norene built their first home in Kenosha County themselves. Woodworking kept Lowell busy, especially in the winter months. Lowell loved being in his own home as well as spending time hunting and working at “hunting camp” in his beloved U.P.
He is survived by his wife, Norene; his three children, Nicole (Torsten) Warnatsch, Andrew Charon, and Lindsay Charon; his grandchildren, Grace and Bella Jacobs, and Ian and Cooner Jonseck, and his siblings, William (Carole) Charon, James (Janet) Charon, Darlene Mc Donough, Gary Charon, Robert (Diane) Charon, and Thomas (Karen) Charon.
Along with his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by his siblings, Roger, Mary Mark, and a sister in infancy.
