Elaine Marie (Lewis) Miller

SPALDING — Elaine Marie (Lewis) Miller, 87, of Spalding, passed away Thursday evening, February 8, 2024, with her loving family by her side.

Elaine was born on September 20, 1936, in Wilson, Mich., daughter of Ervin and Leona Lewis. She grew up in Wilson and attended Harris School.

On November 12, 1955, she married Wayne “Puffy” Miller at St. George Church in Bark River. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2016.

Elaine was a homemaker, and had also worked at Robinson Furniture Factory in Wilson, the Spalding Bakery, and as a secretary for Fleanor Insurance Agency in Spalding, and also for many years at the DuBois Tree Farm in Spalding making Christmas wreaths.

Elaine was a very loved and cherished mother and grandmother, and her family was always her priority in her life. She was also a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. In the summer she loved gardening, canning, and sharing her harvest with her loved ones. During the winter months her passion was crocheting and knitting. Throughout the years she crocheted beautiful blankets for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with many treasured hats, mittens, and scarves. Elaine loved the holidays and hosting family gatherings, and her home was always filled with good food, love, and laughter. Her door was always open for family and friends, and the coffee was always on.

Elaine was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. John Neumann Parish in Spalding. She was an active member of the St. Anne Society for many years and served as co-chairperson for her circle that served funeral meals. She was also a member of the Lioness Club for many years.

Elaine is survived by her four children, Cindy (Miller) Berto, Mike (Linda) Miller, Marilyn (Joe) Vandermissen, and Donna (Mike) Motto; ten grandchildren, Nicole Otradovec (Eric Lingis), Roy Berto (Tami Hasse), Crystal (Jordan) Whitens, Deanna Miller, Jeremy Vandermissen (Amanda Nordquist), Melissa (Chris) Rigoni, Kristen (Adam) Walechka, Michele (Craig) LeClaire, and Dana (Scott) Nelson; step-grandchild, Ryan (Ashley) Prudhomme; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Verna Lewis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennis (Pat) Miller; several nieces and nephews; and special close friends, Barb Hafeman, Barb Murray, Jan Pellegrini, Ed and Stephanie Chartier and their daughters.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister at birth; granddaughter, Mikala; and a brother, Bernard.

Visitation will be on Saturday, February 17 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (Central Time) at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Benny Mathew officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.
