David Michael Kasun
MANISTIQUE — David Michael Kasun, 71 of Manistique, passed away at home on February 13, 2024. He was born on February 29, 1952, to his parents Francis J. Kasun and the former Colleen Evelyn Shampine. David attended St. Francis de Sales School and graduated from Manistique High School with the class of 1970, then attended Lake Superior State College.
David was the third generation of Kasun men who retired from Manistique Papers, Inc. He worked there for many years. However, David’s favorite job held during his lifetime was working on a commercial fishing boat. He loved fishing professionally and recreationally. David was a proud member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and very grateful for the services the Tribe provide him over the years.
Retirement gave David an opportunity to enjoy what he loved most, spending time outdoors kayaking, fishing, hunting, cultivating his raspberry bushes and landscaping his beautiful yard. David was also very artistic, creating many beautiful, intricate drawings. He loved the fresh air, taking daily rides on his bicycle and would easily ride fifteen miles a day.
David is survived by his sister, Carol (Darrell) Dixson; brother, Michael (Jill) Johnson; daughter Crystal Strassner; granddaughter, Aiyonna Swisher; special nephew Benjamin Stoll; sister-in-law Maribeth Kasun; several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as special friends, Rick Fiorini and James Cameron. David was preceded in death by his brother, F. John Kasun; parents, Francis Kasun (father); Colleen Shampine (mother) and nephew, Thomas Kasun.
David was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church. He found great peace and comfort while attending Mass with his family and his fellow parishioners.
