Karen Cameron
LAKE ORION — Karen Cameron, aged 60, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023 in Lake Orion, Michigan after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Karen was born on January 17 1963 in Detroit, to William and Jeanne Laajala. At a very young age, Karen moved with her family to Escanaba, where she made many wonderful memories. Karen moved to Rochester during her junior year and was a 1981 graduate of Rochester High School. She eventually settled in Capac and married Christopher Cameron, who preceded her in death in 1994. Though she was a proud resident of Capac, she considered Escanaba her home wherever she settled and loved returning there anytime she could.
Karen had an innate gift of making people smile wherever she went. She was very loving, had a wonderful close relationship with the Lord, and her family was her joy and passion. She will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren: Cayce (Rob) Stewart, Haleigh, Maxwell and Collin of Temple, Georgia; Carey Gavlinski, Kolten and Caelyn of Lake Orion Mich.; Kevin Kugler (Emm), Steven and Emily of Flint, Mich.
Also surviving are her big brothers and sister: Gary (Barb) Laajala of Escanaba; Keith (Gina) Laajala and son Noah of Fenton; Brian (Anilou) Laajala of Warren; Gayle (Dan) Richter and children Chelsea and fiance Brandon, Danielle (Andrew) Moore and sons Lucas, Lincoln and Logan; Shane and fiancee Catie. Dear friends Sherry Misener Hambly and Karen Cross.
There will be a private celebration honoring Karen on January 17, 2024 (her 61st birthday) in Lake Orion. Family and friends will meet in Port Austin later this summer for a casting ceremony.
