Johnny Lee ‘Chip’ DeLaney

ESCANABA — Johnny Lee “Chip” DeLaney, 76, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 11, 2023 with his loving wife Sandra by his side. Johnny was born February 27, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Jadie and Gertrude (Badeaux) DeLaney.

Johnny married the former Sandra (Lantagne) Baldwin on March 10, 1989. Together they shared over 34 years of wonderful memories. They enjoyed spending their time together traveling to visit family and friends, camping, fishing, attending NASCAR races, and visiting casinos.

Johnny was proud to be a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1967. He often shared his experiences aboard the USS Forrestal while serving in Vietnam. He loved his family dearly and was not afraid to tell anyone and everyone just how deep his southern roots ran.

Johnny retired in 2009 after dedicating nearly 40 years to over the road trucking. He was a member of the Mason’s Derita Lodge #715 A.F.&A.M. of North Carolina.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Gerald and Gerry of McDonough, Georgia; stepdaughters, Rebecca (Mark) Hay of Alpena and Brenda (William) Motto of Escanaba; grandchildren, Joshua Houston, Aaron (Emily) DeLaney, and Emilee Hay; great-granddaughter, Addison Houston; sisters, Connie Dallas and Donna DeLaney; special aunt, Dollie Badeaux; mother-in-law, Linnea Lantagne; brothers-in-law, Richard (Linda) Lantagne and Allen (Kim) Lantagne; sisters-in-law, Donna (Jim) Pepin, Tammy (Greg) Johnson and Ann Lantagne; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Sarah Motto; father-in-law, Edward Lantagne; sister-in-law, Nancy Flores; and brothers-in-law, Ray Lantagne and Sam Dallas.

His family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Michael Keeker and the VA Medical Center.
