James E. ‘Jim’ DeGrand
ESCANABA — James E. “Jim” DeGrand, 64, of Escanaba, passed away at his home on Sunday afternoon, December 10, 2023 following a lengthy illness.
He was born on December 2, 1959 in Escanaba, son to Elmer and Doris (Kositske) DeGrand.
Jim was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1979 until his honorable discharge in 1982. He was awarded the expert M-16 Rifle Marksman, Hand Grenade Sharpshooter, and Army Service Ribbon.
Jim spent his career working in the woods, trucking driving, and owned his own lawn care business, retiring in 2021.
He enjoyed camping, animals, and collecting guns.
Among survivors are his two half-sisters, Carol Lippens and Mary Dube; cousin, Lisa (Dennis) Menard and their son Dennis (Cheyenne) Menard, all of Escanaba; his dog Tiffy; in addition to many other cousins; and special friend, Tom Anderson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by half-brothers, Pat, Mike, and Buster Dube; niece, Lisa Deroucher; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life will take place on Monday, December 18 at the Union Hall, 1201 Sheridan Rd, from 5 to 7 p.m.
