Lorraine M. Wos

LANSING — Lorraine M. Wos, age 72, died Oct 21, 2023 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan surrounded by her immediate loving family. She fought courageously but with dignity her two year diagnosis of ALS.

She was born December 29, 1950, two months premature and 40 minutes after her twin sister at the homestead family farm in Hyde, Michigan. She grew up on the family farm, and left Escanaba in 1969. She graduated from Escanaba Sr. High, Class of ’69. She and her twin sister Irene left Escanaba to attend Lansing Community College.

She worked as a key punch operator for Michigan Animal Breeders Association. She then worked for GM at the Fisher Body Plant, retiring after 35 years in 2005 as an indirect buyer for GM. She met her domestic partner and the love of her life of 26 years, Steve Myron Miller while working at GM.

Lorraine had many interests. Two come into mind. She took pride in everything she did. Her home, yard, and flowers were admired by her neighbors and passersby. Next, Steve’s children, Ray (Courtney) Miller, Lori (Nathan ) Pfost and Staci (Nik) Wissner will remember her talent in making tasty homemade dinners, especially her mashed potatoes which had a secret ingredient.

Lorraine enjoyed traveling with her twin sister. Their first trip overseas to Austria to ski the Austrian Alps for two weeks. Traveling to Poland and Ukraine to visit their father’s homeland and had the opportunity to take their 90 year old father to have as their tour guide and personal translator. In retirement, she enjoyed perfecting her passion for golf. She enjoyed joining the Women’s Flower Club planting flowers at Groesbeck Golf Course.

She is preceded in death by Steve Miller, her partner, her mother (Mamu) Mary Wos, father Joseph Wos and her two aunts, Vanda and Josephine Zajkoski, all of whom surely welcomed her home to heaven.

At the time of her death, her brother Richard (Cathy) Wos, their son Richard Jr. and daughter Megan Wos and her twin sister, Irene Wos were all at her side as she passed. Her niece Whitney and husband Kevin Pratt with their children, Alaina and Gavin Pratt were present in spirit.

We want to thank all of her special friends that came to visit while at her sister’s home when she could no longer stay at her home, and to the physicians and staff at Sparrow Hospital for the care they provided.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the ALS Association of Michigan chapter to help find a cure for ALS.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba.

A celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. following the visitation in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.
