Janis Rae Gilbertsen

Jan was born in Pontiac, Mich. on January 13, 1956. She was the daughter of the late Edward W. Hudson and Dorine (Hagadone) Hudson. She was a 1974 graduate of Marquette Senior High School. Jan married Randy Gilbertsen on December 28, 1978. Randy was the love of her life. They had been married for 44 years.

Jan was known for her beautiful blue eyes and her devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mama Jan often stated that nothing in life compares to the greatness of knowing God. Jan’s mission in life was to serve God and serve others. Jan and Randy were heavily involved in prison ministries through Kyrex. Jan enjoyed many years serving at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Bethel Baptist. Jan’s desire was to Glorify Jesus. Jan remained steadfast and faithful to Jesus through her final trial! Well done faithful servant! Jan worked for the City of Marquette at city hall for many years, as well as the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Harvey. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking, hiking, swimming, fishing, camping, and attending car shows with Randy in her candy apple red 69 GTX convertible.

Carrying on Jan’s Legacy is her husband, Randy. Jan’s other legacy holders include her children, Ramsey (Jamie) Gilbertsen and Sonya Gilbertsen. Jan has four awesome siblings, Cheri (Al) Schiellerd, Michael Hudson, Mark (Venetia) Hudson and Eric (Trish) Hudson. Jan was preceded in death by her parents. Jan is survived by many brothers and sisters in Christ, and her family at Bethel Baptist.

A celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Saturday, November 18 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Marquette. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A dessert social will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jan’s name to the Trillium House, 1144 Northland Drive, Marquette, MI 49855.
