Everett Henry McConkey

ESCANABA — Everett Henry McConkey “Junior”, age 83, of Escanaba, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, surrounded by his family, at his home. He was born March 10, 1940 in Pickford, Mich. and was the son of Everett and Jenni (Peffers) McConkey. Junior graduated from Pickford High School in 1957. On August 11, 1961, he married the former Arlene Ellen Black, in Kinross, Mich. They relocated to Escanaba in 1968 to work for Mead Paper Company. He later worked for Ness Construction as a union laborer until his retirement in 1997. He loved to garden, Junior coached boy’s baseball, ran the Zamboni at the Wells Sorts Complex and would sharpen skates at the complex.

Everett McConkey is survived by wife, Arlene; children, Debbie (Bruce) Thompson of Hessel, Mich., Laurie (Garry) McCallum of Goodrich, Mich., Perry (Carol) McConkey of Holly, Mich., Joseph (Rita) McConkey of Ford River, Mich. and Judy (James) Day of Cottage Grove, Minn.; grandchildren, Jason (Morgan) Thompson, Brandy Thompson, Michael (Courtney) Thompson, Jennifer Abley, Cheri (Mike) Weaver, R.J. (Rebekah VanEpps) Charbonneau, Chad (Krystal Louchart) McConkey, Eric McConkey, Katlyn (Zach Delong) McConkey, Joseph McConkey, Nicole (Jaime) Becher, Kim (Budd Bergloff) Day, Matt (Savanna George) Day and Kailey Day; great-grandchildren, Colin, Blake, Bridynn, Baylor, Jennedy, Mason, Luke, Sam, Keegan, Haidyn, Logahn, Elizah, Abley, Robert, Mykenzie, Hayleigh, Charleyne, Benjamin, Aliva, Andrea, Emily, Ellen, Hope, Marina, Elena, Siena, MacKenzie, Mya, Budd, Michael and Hunter; sisters, Arlamae McDowell, Janette (Fred) Renaud and Evelyn (Peter) Bush and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Day; brother, Frank McConkey and sister, Betty McConkey.
