Elizabeth Weber

IRON MOUNTAIN — Elizabeth Weber, 97, of Iron Mountain passed away Friday, October 13, 2023, at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford.

Elizabeth was born in Trenary, Michigan, on April 22, 1926, the eighth of nine children born to Frank and Mary Mikulich. She graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in elementary education and taught for two and a half years in Manistique, Michigan, where she met and married Kenneth Weber on October 29, 1949. Married for 46 years, they traveled the Iron Range and raised six children: Gina, Joan, John, Mark, Matthew and Martin, before finally settling down on a little piece of paradise at Moon Lake.

A new chapter in life for Betty (Liz, to some) was her marriage to Marty Waananen in October of 1997. They met after many years at their 50th high school class reunion. They wintered in Palm Springs and Pullman, Washington, where Marty had a career and home, and they eventually settled permanently at Moon Lake.

Liz was preceded in death by her son Matthew, and her husbands Ken and Marty.

Left to hold dear are her children: Gina (John) Danyluk, Joan Weber, John (Pam) Weber, Mark (Cindy) Weber, and Marty (Carol) Weber; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister.

Betty would like to be remembered for her love of children and friends, her smile, her integrity and her perseverance.

Should friends desire, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society in Betty’s memory.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Michael Chenier will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Manistique.
