Donald J. Cousineau

ESCANABA — Donald J. Cousineau, 94, of Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

He was born in Escanaba on November 22, 1928, the son of James and Bertha (Roberts) Cousineau. Donald graduated from Escanaba High School in 1947.

On, July 10, 1987, Donald married the former Dolores Gilland at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Escanaba. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2019.

Donald was employed as a finishing carpenter for over 60 years in the Carpenter Union. He retired in January 1990.

Donald always enjoyed his time with his four-wheeling group and the adventures they would go on.

He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church where he served as an usher. Don’s love of his faith, family, and friends were of the utmost importance in his life. He lived by this when raising his family, and shared with his friends his time and talents.

Survivors include his children, Gerald (Cindy) Cousineau of Green Bay, Janet Mahoney of Green Bay, Jean (James) Billy of Bark River, Joan (Mark) Sidla of Champlin, Minn., Joyce (Jeff) Sheedlo of Escanaba, and James (Lynn) Cousineau of Escanaba; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Linda (Greg) Yagodzinski of Escanaba, Katherine (Mario) McHeli of Arizona, Lisa Lancour of Escanaba, and Staci (Mike) Abb of Bark River; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores; and siblings, Raymond, Robert, Ruby, Katherine, Margaret, and Arlene.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 4 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. At the conclusion of the Mass a luncheon will be served in the church hall.

Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, other expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family and a memorial will be established at a later date.
