Thomas ‘Tom’ C. Sylvester
GLADSTONE — Thomas “Tom” C. Sylvester, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 24, 2023 at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone with his loving wife by his side.
He was born on May 25, 1943 in Wells, son of Carl and Dorothy (Moreau) Sylvester. Tom was raised in the Riverland area and graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1961.
Tom proudly served in the Navy from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1965.
On June 10, 1967, Tom married the love of his life Corrine Ann LaMarche at Holy Family Church. They celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage and shared an admirable and genuine love for one another.
Tom was employed at the paper mill from 1966 until 2000, retiring as maintenance supervisor.
Fondly known as “Tomcat” to many, he was a true family man, providing unconditional love and support to friends and family. He loved the outdoors and hunting, bowling, and going to the casino. His greatest joy was being the best “papa” to his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with family and watching the grandkids in their activities and sports, and he provided the best example of how to always put his family first.
Tom enjoyed being involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program and was a 4-H leader for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Anthony’s of Padua Church and the American Legion.
Among survivors are his wife, Corrine Sylvester of Escanaba; two children, Michael (Heather) Sylvester of Escanaba and Sherri (Pete) Peterson of Gladstone; four grandchildren, Jake and Rudy Peterson and Ashley and Timmy Sylvester; sister, Sue Boudreau (Ron Winters) and brother Dick Sylvester; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rodney and Kathy LaMarche; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in law, Raymond and Kathryn LaMarche; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Willie and Karen LaMarche; and brother-in-law, Roger Boudreau.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 27 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.
