Judith ‘Judy’ L. Chouinard

ESCANABA — Judith “Judy” L. Chouinard, 69, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 14, 2023 following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on January 28, 1954 in Escanaba, daughter to John T. and Carol J. (Perryman) McMahon. Judy was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1972.

On December 5, 1997, Judy married Terry L. Chouinard in Escanaba.

She had worked at Dan’s Bar, North Woods Assisting Living, Rainbow Packing, and more recently Riverland Smoke since 2005. Judy was also a volunteer bartender at the Amvets.

Judy loved the outdoors. If she could be barefoot every day, she would choose that while putzing with her flowers, mowing the lawn, and doing any other yard work.

She and Terry enjoyed camping and many years would do pig roasts for a variety of special events for friends and family.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hyde and was a previous member of the Amvets Auxiliary.

Among survivors are her husband, Terry of Escanaba; son, David Simmons of Lake Linden, Mich.; stepchildren, Tony Grzyb, Amber Gallagher, Nicole Boggs, Casey Chouinard, Dustin Chouinard, and Scott Chouinard; seven grandchildren, Hannah Simmons, Maddie Simmons, Matthew Stoken, Ethan Stoken, Lily Simmons, Reagan Simmons and Emma Simmons; siblings, Barb (Cliff Baron) McMahon, Laura (Dennis) Dittrich, Gail (Larry) Kosobucki, Patti (Terry) Dittrich, and John McMahon; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her brother, David McMahon and sister, Susan Salmon.

A private visitation and service will be held. A celebration of life for Judy will take place on Monday, September 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Highland Golf Club, 3011 Hwy US 2 & 41, Bark River.
